Missing Data, Cycles and More

Why does it look like I am missing cycles? Why does it look like I am missing cycles?

VisionLink Productivity does not process data received beyond 72 hours after creation. If cycles are missing or you require more information, Contact Support  for assistance.

Why do the utilization values differ between VisionLink Productivity and other Cat applications? Why do the utilization values differ between VisionLink Productivity and other Cat applications?

VisionLink Productivity calculates utilization values based on asset tags. Specifically, it calculates:

  • For Hauler – Load & Haul and Scraper asset tags using movement utilization logic.

  • For Loader – Load & Haul, Load Out and Support asset tags using machine-based utilization logic.

Machine-based utilization logic will either use the assets' cumulative or individual utilization events.

But in other Cat applications such as my.cat.com  and VisionLink , they do not calculate utilization values based on asset tags. Hence there is a chance these utilization values will differ between VisionLink Productivity and other Cat applications.

How is utilization determined for assets? How is utilization determined for assets?

There are three different methodologies to calculate accurate utilization values based on asset tags. Learn more by referring to Utilization Methodologies and Utilization KPIs.

Why don’t my assets report long and medium idle? Why don’t my assets report long and medium idle?

VisionLink Productivity calculates utilization values based on the assets' total idle time and total run time hours for the last 24 hours. These cannot be segmented into long, medium or short idle duration. The utilization values are calculated for loader, load out and support assets that work in the same place.

Why are production and utilization values inaccurate near high walls, deep pits, overhead structures or in buildings? Why are production and utilization values inaccurate near high walls, deep pits, overhead structures or in buildings?

Key Performance Indicator (KPI) values for Production and Utilization tabs are based on accurate Global Positioning System (GPS) location data. There could be inaccuracies in production and utilization KPI values if the GPS antenna does not have a clear sky view or is  covered by metal or terrain (close to high wall or deep pit).

Why do my Shift Summary Reports not work for Loader asset tags? Why do my Shift Summary Reports not work for Loader asset tags?

Currently the report is sent only for Hauler – Load & Haul asset tag. Configuring runtime data using Custom Report on Reports covers all reporting assets.

Why does payload or cycle count not match the same information with other Caterpillar applications? Why does payload or cycle count not match the same information with other Caterpillar applications?

VisionLink Productivity utilizes Advanced Productivity data on machines subscribed to the latter. For all other Load and Cycle-subscribed assets it processes raw telematics data to create cycles and segments.

The data available from Advanced Productivity machines through VisionLink Productivity Site Summary is filtered to show only  productive cycles, with all other cycles showing in Insights. Productive cycles for a hauler are Load, Haul or Dump, and for a loader are Loading or Load and Carry.

All other cycles can help in determining underlying issues but do not represent a productive machine utilization.

The raw telematics data calculates cycles and segments with any available payload data assisting in calculations for non-Advanced Productivity assets.

Hence, these calculated cycles may not match other Cat applications due to required interaction with other assets within the site.

Why can’t Loads be seen in Dump zones or Dumps be seen in Load zones? Why can’t Loads be seen in Dump zones or Dumps be seen in Load zones?

Load and Cycle-subscribed machines cannot show loads in a dump zone or dumps in a load zone.

Any loads in a dump zone will show as “Unknown” and Map will show only the load location.

Any dumps in a load zone will show as “Unknown” and Map will show only the dump location.

To fix this, try the following steps:

  • Review Types of Zones, correct or change the zone type or shape as appropriate.

  • Advanced Productivity or Body Up Switch monitoring can aid in dumps in a load zone.

  • Advanced Productivity can show a load in dump zone or dump in a load zone—regardless of zone.

  • Cycle counts will also be incorrectly defined if loads or dumps are not set correctly.

In case there is a need for a zone where both fill/dump and cut/load events occur, create stockpile zones.

Why are there different numerical values between chart and map view? Why are there different numerical values between chart and map view?

Maps are populated by load or dump events. Multiple load or dump events will be combined into one cycle in the chart.

Why do I have cycles from Advanced Productivity that report fuel consumed as zero liters/gallons?Why do I have cycles from Advanced Productivity that report fuel consumed as zero liters/gallons?

When the onboard software creates cycles, they pull the best available fuel value for every cycle.
Based on the duration of the cycle and the engine speed, this value can sometimes be 0 Liters/Gallons for the cycle. This is rare, but expected for cycles in all assets that report Advanced Productivity data.

Why do my articulated trucks show a large number of "Other" cycles for today? Why do my articulated trucks show a large number of "Other" cycles for today?

Articulated trucks with Advanced Productivity will generate and communicate onboard data as frequently as possible.

Often times they will communicate incomplete cycles identified as "Other."

As the cycles complete and off board-communicated from the machine, they will be renamed from "Other" to the completed cycle name.

Why am I seeing an "Unknown Loader" in Fleet View, Insights, or Reports? Why am I seeing an "Unknown Loader" in Fleet View, Insights, or Reports?

"Unknown Loader" happens when a:

  • Hauler gets loaded without a loader asset nearby.

  • Data coming into VisionLink Productivity (GPS, time and date) shows that loader and hauler are not in the same relative area.

Some examples:

  • Bin- or hopper-loading haulers: There is no solution for this currently. VisionLink Productivity reads this as an unknown loading device.

  • Loading from an asset not set up in VisionLink Productivity: Fix by setting up all assets within the site. Contact your local dealer for further assistance.

  • Mismatch in reported time between loader and hauler: Fix by verifying alignment of date and time stamps between assets and if it's set to local time. Contact your local dealer for further assistance.

  • Incorrect GPS signal from either loaderor hauler: Fix by ensuring loading location has clear sky view.  If the load occurs inside a metal building, near a highwall, under metal canopy or roof structure, this could affect GPS location.

  • Lack of connection or broken communication connections: Fix by checking cellular and GPS antenna connections. Install an external antenna if unit does not have one. Contact your local dealer for further assistance.

Why is Dump Time and Cycle Time same in Insights Production? Why is Dump Time and Cycle Time same in Insights Production?

For loaders with a Load & Cycle subscription, only the dump segment data can be identified and measured. Hence, VisionLink Productivity displays a loader’s dump time as equal to the load and cycle time of the truck.

Why are my Site Summary and Insights Summary data different from my Payload Details report data? Why are my Site Summary and Insights Summary data different from my Payload Details report data?

Site Summary and Insights Summary data is based of cycles and segments data collected by assets operating in the site. However, Payload Details report data is based on payload records. Not every cycle or segment will contain an associated payload record.

Thus, there are possibilities of differences between the two data sets.
